Ways To Play
Battle of the Bases
2 Players
Age 8+
Shuffle and deal each player 20 DNA Base cards, face down.
Players face off by turning over their cards next to each other at the same time.
If the 2 base pairs are a matching set (G and C; or A and T), the first player to slap the cards gets all the cards in the pile.
If a player slaps the cards or ‘flinches’ at an incorrect match, then the cards go to the other player.
Play until no cards are left from the original piles. The player with the most collected cards wins the round. Best of 5 rounds wins the game.
Memory DNA
2 Players
Age 8+
Select 4 of each type of DNA Base card: A, T, G, and C. Shuffle the cards and then place face-down 4 x 4 tile pattern.
The youngest player starts by flipping over 2 cards.
If they are matching DNA bases (G and C; or A and T), the player puts the cards in their own pile and then flips over 2 more cards.
If the 2 cards are not a matching pair, the player turns them back over and then the next player takes their turn.
The game is over when all 8 pairs have been identified; the player with the most cards wins.
Challenge – play with 9 of each card in a 6 x 6 tile pattern.
"No Way DNA"
2-4 Players
Age 8+
Shuffle and deal each player 3 DNA Base cards. The remainder go face down in a center draw pile. Each player gets a DNA Sequence card to place face up in front of them.
The youngest player goes first, asking another player if they have an A, T, C, or G. If yes, they give it to the player. If no, they say “No way, DNA” and the player takes a card from the center draw pile. If the player has the same sequence of 3 bases from the DNA Sequence card (which has 4 sets of sequences), they lay it down. The player then takes card(s) from the center pile or places cards in a discard pile so they hold 3 cards. Play continues in a clockwise direction.
The first player to place down the 4 sets of DNA Sequence bases and say “Hooray DNA!” wins.
Challenge – find DNA bases that form base pairs to the DNA sequence (e.g. for sequence ‘GCT’, find ‘CGA’)
A C T G
2-4 Players
Age 8+
Shuffle and deal all the DNA Base cards face down among the players. If extras, set to the side.
The oldest player announces ‘Go’ to start the game, and then players pick up their cards. Players place cards face-up in the center pile in the order ‘A, C, T, G’ and then repeating.
Cards must be placed in order, one at a time, with no duplicates.
The first person to get rid of all cards in their hand wins the round.
Best of 5 rounds wins the game.
DNA Sequence
2-4 Players
Age 11+
Shuffle and deal each player 20 DNA Base cards, face down to their left, and one DNA Sequence card in front of them face up.
The oldest player announces ‘Go’ to start the game. Players can draw from their pile to have 2 cards in hand at a time, placing the matching bases (G to C; A to T) down in front of them in order to the DNA Sequence starting from the top DNA sequence (left to right) and then moving to the bottom. If a player does not have match to place, they can discard in a pile to the right and draw from the left. When the pile on the left runs out, the player moves the pile on the right back to the left and continues. The first person to complete their sequence correctly wins.
Best out of 5 rounds wins the game.

Challenge – add an additional DNA Sequence card
Sequence Variants
2-4 Players
Age 11+
For the first round, follow the rules of DNA Sequence.
After the round ends, the last person to finish gets to change one variable for the next round, either for themselves or for one other player of their choosing.
Variable -
-
# of cards in hand (1 extra or 1 less card to have in hand at one time)
-
Placing down matching DNA bases for top and bottom sequences at same time (2 sequences concurrently)
-
One person gets 10 second head start
-
Add an additional DNA Sequence card for another player
Best out of 5 rounds wins the game.
Okazaki Fragments
2-4 Players
Age 11+
Follow the rules of DNA Sequence, but put down the matching DNA bases in right to left (reverse) direction.
Place matching sequences for both top and bottom sequences at same time (build 2 sequences concurrently)
Challenge – use 2 DNA Sequence cards for a total of 4 distinct DNA fragments at the same time
